SENATE RESOLUTION

                    INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JUNE 5, 2007


                                  A RESOLUTION

 

     1  Commending the Heart of Gold Foundation for raising awareness of

     2     sarcoidosis through its First Annual Walk-Run for Sarcoidosis

     3     on June 10, 2007, in Highland Park, Pittsburgh.

 

     4     WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis is a mysterious disease without an

     5  identified cause and with no cure; and

     6     WHEREAS, This disease afflicts women more often than men, and

     7  the average age at diagnosis is between the ages of 20 and 40;

     8  and

     9     WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis is more likely to occur among persons of

    10  African, Asian, German, Irish, Puerto Rican, Scandinavian and

    11  Japanese descent, and 10 to 17 times more African Americans than

    12  White Americans are afflicted; and

    13     WHEREAS, Under medical supervision, sarcoidosis can be

    14  monitored and controlled, but it affects many organs of the body

    15  and can cause death; and

    16     WHEREAS, In memory of Kenneth G. (Glen) Dixon, Sr., and to

    17  raise awareness of sarcoidosis, the Heart of Gold Foundation is

    18  sponsoring the Walk-Run for Sarcoidosis, themed "Let's Find a

 

     1  Cure," on June 10, 2007, in the Highland Park area of

     2  Pittsburgh; therefore be it

     3     RESOLVED, That the Senate commend the Heart of Gold

     4  Foundation for raising awareness of sarcoidosis through its

     5  First Annual Walk-Run for Sarcoidosis on June 10, 2007, in

     6  Highland Park, Pittsburgh.
