Why walk for sarcoidosis?
Sarcoidosis is a very mysterious disease that has no known cause or cure.  Tens of thousands of people are affected by sarcoidosis in the United States alone.  Most  people never heard of the disease until someone in the family has been diagnosed with it.  It is a debilitating disease that can affect many organs in the body, leaving the organs badly scarred and damaged and sometimes resulting in death.
The disease affects people are between 20 to 40 years of age and while anyone can contact the illness.  In Irish, Scandinavians, and Danes can also get Sarcoidosis, African Americans are affected  10 times more often than Caucasians, and the African American woman gets sarcoidosis two times as often as the male.

The Heart of Gold Foundation for Sarcoidosis is the first chapter in the Pittsburgh area  to raise awareness for this devastating disease.
Our walk/run will heighten awareness and we hope that our efforts will bring hundreds of people from all walks of life out to make a  difference.
We are a non-profit publicly supported charity that funds research to find a cure for sarcoidosis.
